With each passing day, it appears that Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams could be closing in on a transfer to FC Barcelona.
As has been reported already, the 22-year-old is the Catalans’ top transfer target this summer, with the club tabling a long-term contract offer last week when Deco met with the player’s agent, Felix Tainta.
The Blaugrana have everything prepared to activate Williams’ €58 million release clause and are awaiting the final ‘OK’ from the player, which they expect to receive in the coming days.
Barcelona confident of closing deal
Now, Fabrizio Romano has come forward with an update on the situation, stating that Barcelona are growing increasingly optimistic about signing Nico Williams.
The Blaugrana are confident of getting the green light from the player and his entourage on the contract terms they have offered.
The belief within the club is that they have convinced the Spanish international with their sporting project and there is confidence about receiving the go-ahead from La Liga as well with regard to the Financial Fair Play situation.
More contacts are expected to take place between the club and the player’s entourage, and there is confidence that the deal can be closed soon.
An alternate report from SPORT also affirms the same, claiming that Deco will be meeting with Nico’s agent Felix Tainta again this week, this time to confirm the agreement.
All parties involved are eager to resolve the situation before August, although even if the deal is finalised soon, the 22-year-old will not be joining the Barcelona players on the pre-season tour of the USA.
