Frenkie de Jong has been linked with a transfer away from Barcelona. The Netherlands international is among the most talented midfielders of his generation.
He joined Barcelona for €75 million from Ajax in the summer transfer window of 2019. De Jong has played 157 games (in all competitions) for the Blaugrana so far, registering 15 goals and 19 assists. He helped the Blaugrana win the 2020-21 Copa del Rey and also won the Premi Barça Jugadors (Barça Players Award) in 2020–21.
Barcelona CEO Jordi Cruyff has revealed that the time to sell Frenkie de Jong has passed now.
Speaking to SPORT, he said: “Frenkie de Jong is not for sale. He’s key player for us, so that time has passed. He’s here and he’s important for us. At the end last summer after Fair Play discussions he stayed here and Frenkie is really loved at Barça”.

They even accepted a transfer bid from Manchester United to sell Frenkie de Jong. However, De Jong showed reluctance in leaving and blocked his exit from the club.
The Dutch international has been among Barcelona’s top performers this season. He has played 13 La Liga games so far, registering two goals and one assist.

The Netherlands are set to play Argentina in a FIFA World Cup quarter-final tie at Lusail Stadium on December 10. Frenkie de Jong has made an honest admission that he doesn’t know the way to stop Lionel Messi. He said: “Well, no. I know him but I don’t know how to stop him. He’s been making a difference for 15 years and there is not one way to stop him”
De Jong and Messi were teammates at Barcelona between 2019 and 2021. The duo were part of the Blaugrana squad that won the Copa de Rey in 2020-21.
