FC Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has admitted that ‘everything was easier’ when Lionel Messi was at FC Barcelona.
Until his departure from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2021 after his contract had expired, Lionel Messi had spent the entirety of his senior club football career at the Catalan outfit.
Lionel Messi, who is a product of the famed La Masia academy, made 778 appearances for the Barcelona senior team and racked up a staggering total of 672 goals for the Catalan outfit during his time at the club.
The Argentine superstar also forged a great partnership with Jordi Alba, who signed for Barcelona in 2012. Jordi Alba continues to ply his trade for Barcelona and has so far made 449 appearances for the Catalan outfit.

‘We made a very good duo’ – Jordi Alba on Lionel Messi
Speaking about working with Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba said he and the Argentine understood each other perfectly and that they made a good duo. Jordi Alba also said everything was easier when Lionel Messi was at Barcelona.
“We understood each other perfectly, he put it to me at the right time. It was increasingly difficult because all the opponents already knew us, but he would come in from the second line and sometimes he would find other team-mates who were more unmarked,” Jordi Alba told Universo Valdano.
“We made a very good duo. With him, everything was easier. Almost all my assists are to him, I remember that the first one was at El Sadar. In all aspects of the game, he is the best,” Alba added.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi had endured a rather underwhelming 21/22 season at PSG in his first season away from Barcelona. However, the Argentine icon has been stellar for PSG in the ongoing 22/23 season.
Lionel Messi has entered the final six months of his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Some have speculated Messi with a return to Barcelona, although no concrete developments with regard to that have happened yet.
Jordi Alba, meanwhile, has a contract that runs until 2024 with Barcelona. That means he has more than one year left on his current deal with the Catalan outfit.
