Lamine Yamal has given a wide-ranging interview to the popular show El Hormiguero, and one remark that is getting a lot of attention relates to an FC Barcelona transfer target: Nico Williams.
The pair bonded both as friends and as teammates in the Spanish national team’s triumph in the UEFA Euro 2024. The two wingers dazzled for Spain, and Barcelona came close to reuniting them at club level. However, the move fizzled before it could come true.
“I would like to play with him every week, I hope so, but he is now at Athletic,” Yamal said.
Asked directly if Williams would join Barcelona, Yamal simply shrugged and said “I don’t know.
He said the two bonded over similar taste in music: “We like the same things, the same music, we watch dances on Tik Tok… I like reggaeton, French music, Brazilian…”
Moving onto a more serious topic, Yamal was asked what he would say to some extreme-right figures who had made racist comments towards him and Williams, who were both born in Spain and of African descent.
“I don’t think it’s worth it to say anything to them. Nico and I spoke, and we decided the best thing to do is not answer. We know our education, our values. And there’s nothing left to say,” Yamal said.
