Spanish giants FC Barcelona have registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in their latest La Liga tie.
19-year-old Spanish International Pedri’s goal was enough for the Blaugrana to get three points from a topsy-turvy match.
Barcelona came into the match with six back-to-back victories in the Spanish League. However, the Spanish giants were suffering from many injuries. Hence Xavi started a squad with heavy rotations.
German custodian Marc Andre Ter-Stegen started in goal. Alejandro Balde, Gerrard Pique, Marcos Alonso, and Jordi Alba played in the four-man defense. Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets and their young midfield duo Gavi and Pedri started in the midfield. Brazilian winger Raphinha and Spanish International Ferran Torres were put on the wings while Robert Lewandowski was given the duty to lead the line.
Barcelona edged out Celta Vigo
The Blaugrana made a great start to the match. From the beginning, Gavi and Raphinha were exploiting the space given to them by Celta’s defense.
Barcelona came very close to taking the lead in the 10th minute of the match when Raphinha’s brilliant long ranger was tipped off by Celta’s Argentine keeper Agustin Marchesin.
The Catalans then continued their attacking display and finally got their reward in the 18th minute. After a great build-up, Gavi was found on the left side with a long ball from midfield. The Spanish International continued his run and then darted in a cross that was not cleared properly by Celta’s Unai Nunez. The rebound fell to Pedri who made no mistake to give Barca the lead.
After the goal, Celta kept a strong defensive shape in the first half and did not give Barcelona many opportunities. They however failed to create much for themselves too. Barca went into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead in halftime.
In the second half, Celta improved their performance and started to threaten Barca’s defense. They saw one goal cancelled out due to offside. Celta then got three great chances in the last moments of the game but German keeper Marc Andre ter-Stegen denied them with a fine display of goalkeeping.
At first, he saved a one-on-one opportunity from Celta’s talisman Iago Aspas. Then he kept a close-range header from Carles Perez out before stopping Gonzalo Paciencia’s effort. Barcelona finished the match with a 1-0 victory.
With this performance, Ter-Stegen kept his sixth consecutive clean sheet of the league. His performance was once again clutch which gave Barcelona three important points.
With this win, Barcelona now have 22 points from eight matches. They have regained the top spot and are now leading their rivals Real Madrid on goal difference. The Blaugrana will now face Real Madrid in their next La Liga outing before facing Inter in the Champions League.
