HITC understands that Fulham have agreed a deal to sign a defender who will be Tosin Adarabioyo’s replacement.
Chelsea completed the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo early on in the summer transfer window with the English defender departing Craven Cottage on a free transfer.
Newcastle withdrew their contract offer for Adarabioyo who also snubbed interest from Manchester United to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Despite losing Tosin on a free transfer, which is a big blow to the club, HITC understands that Fulham are closing in on a replacement for the former Manchester City defender.
Fulham strike agreement to sign Jorge Cuenca
HITC understands that Fulham have agreed terms with Villarreal for Spanish defender Jorge Cuenca, who is set to be Adarabioyo’s replacement at Craven Cottage.
Fulham have been assessing several options in central defence this summer, but have now opted for Cuenca.
The Spanish defender, formerly of Barcelona, is set to become the third Villarreal player to seal a move to England this week following on from Ben Brereton-Diaz, who joined Southampton, and Filip Jorgensen, who moved to Chelsea.
Fulham sources confirm a five-year agreement is in place for Cuenca and he is now due for his medical in West London.
Cuenca would replace Adarabioyo, as mentioned, and once that deal is done you wonder if the Cottagers could target a Joao Palhinha replacement.
HITC had reported that Fulham are interested in Manchester United’s Scott McTominay with the Cottagers preparing to make a bid for the Scottish star.
This came after Palhinha signed for Bayern Munich after the Bavarian side struck a deal with Fulham to sign the Portuguese midfielder.
Fulham one of the sides keen on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah
As well as getting a deal over the line for Villarreal’s Cuenca, HITC understands they are one of the sides keen on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.
HITC reported that Chelsea informed Chalobah he is available for transfer with multiple Premier League sides keen and Fulham are one of these sides.
Despite Fulham showing interest in the English defender, it remains to be seen what side Chalobah would be willing to move to this summer.
HITC understands that Chalobah is keen on moving to a side playing in Europe.
